This tour is meant to help every passionate herpetologist enjoy the vast diversity of reptiles and amphibians of Kenya, a gateway to African herpetology.

Kenya hosts over 120 species of amphibians and over 300 species of reptiles. There are at least 147 Snakes, 140 Lizards, 5 Sea or Marine Turtles, 5 Land Tortoises, 7 Terrapins or Fresh Water Turtles and 1 Crocodile species, in the country.

Kenya’s Herpetology is at its peak in this decade; with new species being discovered and described each year.

We shall depart early and head North to Mt. Kenya; where this Kenya Herpetology Safari Tour takes place. We shall enjoy some roadside stops around local bushes and wetlands. Soon we shall arrive in Mt. Kenya where we shall scout several rivers, grasslands and forest trails seeking local species. We shall also survey nearby farms to add extra species.

Species of amphibians here include Kinangop Dainty Frog/ Kinangop Caco, Lonnberg’s Dwarf Toad, Kerinyaga Toad, Mahnert’s Rocket Frog, Nutt’s River Frog, De Witte’s River Frog, Leopard/ Peter’s Reed Frog, Kenya Montane Reed Frog, Silver-bladdered Reed Frog and Bocage’s Tree Frog.

Reptiles include Alpine Meadow Skink, Bayon’s Skink, Alpine Meadow Lizard, Blue-headed Tree Agama, Kenya Red-headed Rock Agama, Mt. Kenya Bladeless Chameleon, Von Hohnel’s Chameleon, Mt. Kenya Side-striped Chameleon, Jackson’s Chameleon, Kenya Kenya/ Dickerson’s Forest Gecko, Mt. Kenya Dwarf Gecko, Kibonoto Forest Lizard, Battersby’s Green Snake, Mt. Kenya Bush Viper, Common Purple-glossed Snake, Montane Viper and Mt. Kenya/ Meru Tree Snake.

Our morning will start with some further exploration in Mount Kenya. We shall visit sites that we may have missed the previous days.

We shall then drive back to Nairobi, marking the end to our lovely herping safari tour.
